Researchers have discovered what may be the world's largest spiderweb inside Sulfur Cave on the Albanian-Greek border—a massive structure covering over 100 square meters and housing an estimated 111,000 spiders.
The colony includes two common species—Tegenaria domestica and Prinerigone vagans—living together in thousands of funnel-shaped webs. According to scientists from the Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, this is the first known case of such large-scale colonial behavior among these typically solitary spiders.

🏆 The Gap Between Open and Closed AI Models Is Shrinking
According to Epoch AI, open-weight models now take an average of 3.5 months to reach the performance level of leading closed systems developed by OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. A year ago, that gap was about 12 months.
The gap between today's best open-source models and top closed-source models is comparable to the difference between flagship models like GPT-5 or Gemini 2.5 Pro and their lighter mini/flash versions.

☣️ Tulane Denies Infection Claims After Monkey Truck Crash
A truck carrying research monkeys crashed on I‑59 in eastern Mississippi after leaving Tulane University, and some animals escaped.
The Jasper County Sheriff's Office first warned that the rhesus monkeys were aggressive and carried hepatitis C, herpes, and COVID‑19, and said all but one escapee were euthanized while the others were being recovered."We are continuing to look for the one monkey that is still on the loose," the sheriff's office said.
Later, Tulane spokesperson Michael Strecker said the primates belonged to another entity and were not infectious, contradicting the initial alert.

❌ Scientists, Tech Leaders, and Politicians Call for a Ban on Super AI
An open letter from the nonprofit Future of Life Institute urges a moratorium on developing superintelligence (AGI)—AI that could surpass humans at every task.
✍️ The statement has been signed by over 39,000 people, including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Stability AI co-founder Emad Mostaque, former Baidu president Ya-Qin Zhang, papal advisor Paolo Benanti, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and several Nobel and Turing Award winners—including "Godfather of AI" Geoffrey Hinton.
The authors acknowledge AI's potential advantages, but caution that a superintelligence that could emerge within a year or two might pose significant risks to humanity—from loss of freedom to possible extinction.
Critics argue that the proposal is too vague, as it remains unclear who would enforce such a ban, how it would operate, what exactly would be restricted, or what constitutes "consensus" or "public support."
In March 2023, after GPT-4 release, the same institute called for a six-month pause on developing more advanced AI systems.
Would you support a ban on AGI development?
🔥 — Yes, until it's proven safe
🎃 — No, we can't slow down progress
🤔 — We need regulation, not a ban
