It got too quiet, so now we have a measles outbreak in South Carolina. Health officials in the state say that this measles outbreak is primarily affecting children, and they blame vaccine hesitancy. It is ironic that this is occurring after HHS has had serious concerns about the MMR vaccine, calling it out as a primary driver of autism cases. To date there are about 120 cases, with about 40 reported since December 5. Another 300 people are in quarantine. The cases are occurring in an "undervaccinated community" and the exposure is thought to have occurred at large church gatherings and schools. The argument about whether to use the MMR vaccine or not is myopic. There is a different argument...does measles need to be prevented in the first place? Brian Hooker reminds use that case mortality for measles before the vaccine was introduced was 2 in 10,000. And the vaccine has its own issues. Children were injured or killed as a result of an adverse reaction to the MMR vaccine. This particular vaccine causes brain injury, gut issues and more.
