A MUM and dad have been charged with sexually assaulting their one-year-old child and neglecting two other children. The woman, aged 25, and a 27-year-old man previously appeared in court having been charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. They were also charged with these offences in relation to two other children. The man had also been charged with possession of indecent images. The alleged material includes 63 under the most serious Category A, 23 Category B images and 14 classified as Category C. They were remanded into custody and will next appear before Warwick Crown Court on January 9.

A police hunt is under way to track down a sex predator who assaulted three women in the space of just minutes on Edinburgh streets. Detectives believe the same man carried out all three attacks during a disturbing spree in the Stockbridge area early on Friday evening. The suspect is described as being of Asian appearance, aged between 25 and mid-30s, slim build, around 5ft 8in tall, with light facial hair. He was wearing a khaki or brown-coloured coat and carrying a backpack. Detective Inspector Dougal Begg said: “I understand incidents like these cause concern in the local community, but we are carrying out extensive enquiries and doing everything we can to trace the man responsible."

A man who "furiously and repeatedly" stabbed an 11-year-old girl during a random attack in London's Leicester Square has been detained indefinitely. The Australian child was approached by Ioan Pintaru, 33, after she left the Lego store around 11.30am on 12 August 2024 with her mother. The defendant placed the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in a headlock and stabbed her eight times in the face, neck and chest. The victim's mother told police she saw Pintaru "furiously and repeatedly" attacking her daughter. In a witness statement read out in court, she described his arm as moving "like a jackhammer", using "as much force as he could". The mother added she thought he was "trying to kill her" and he was "wide-eyed and manic like nothing was going to stop him". Pintaru originally faced an attempted murder charge, but the prosecution decided his psychosis at the time of the offence meant it could not be proven he had an intent to kill, the court heard.

A university student who sexually abused three vulnerable women in just nine months has been jailed indefinitely. Rapist David Ekpe was convicted of three sexual offence charges following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh on November 19, 2024. The rapist has been handed an Order for Lifelong Restriction after being considered a danger to the public

David Norris, who murdered Stephen Lawrence, has been denied parole, the BBC understands. He sought release during a parole hearing in October, having been jailed in 2012. Stephen, 18, was stabbed to death in an attack in south London in 1993.

A girl aged nine has been stabbed to death at a house in a quiet street in Somerset. Police and paramedics were called to the address in Weston-super-Mare just after 6pm on Monday. A teenage boy was later arrested outside Worle rail station, less than half a mile from the scene, and held on suspicion of murdering nine-year-old Aria Thorpe. A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said today: 'A murder investigation is being carried out following the death of a nine-year-old girl at an address in Weston-super-Mare. 'We were called by paramedics to a residential address in Lime Close, in the Mead Vale area, at 6.09pm yesterday (Monday 15 December). The first officer arrived at the scene at 6.12pm. 'Sadly, the young girl was pronounced deceased at the scene. 'A teenage boy was arrested in Worle at 6.19pm. He remains in custody, arrested on suspicion of murder.'

But Paul Greaney KC, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court that, following Doyle’s release, seven months later, he managed to stay out of trouble for 30 years, taking steps to ‘live a positive and productive life.’ However, all that unravelled in seven shocking minutes on May 26 this year when he snapped and – in a fit of rage – ‘used his car as a weapon’ to plough into hundreds of supporters celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League title win.

A man has admitted attempting to murder two teenagers near Portobello beach in Edinburgh. Amar Mudawi, 22, pleaded guilty to carrying out the knife attacks at Portobello Promenade and Mentone Avenue on April 12. He confessed to the brutal murder bid at the High Court in Edinburgh on Tuesday. Sentencing will take place on January 14. The court heard how the attacks were captured on CCTV and ring doorbell camera.

Donald Trump has filed a defamation lawsuit against the BBC, alleging the corporation's Panorama documentary portrayed him in a "false, defamatory, deceptive, disparaging, inflammatory, and malicious" manner. The complaint relates to the broadcaster's editing of a speech he made on January 6th 2021 when supporters 'stormed' the Capitol building. The US president is seeking damages of no less than $5bn (£3.7bn) under a defamation lawsuit. He has also sued for $5bn for alleged violation of a trade practices law. Both lawsuits have been filed in Florida.
