The assassin is still at large, but many theorize that Mustapha Kharbouch, a Palestinian refugee and LGBT Muslim activist, is responsible — this aligns with reports that the assassin shouted "allahu akbar." If Kharbouch is the assassin, then Brown University is complicit. They are currently scrubbing all information related to Kharbouch, who they employed as a student assistant at their Center for Middle East Studies.

In the days leading up to the terrorist attack, the Australian government and media spent their time doxing and harassing Joel's girlfriend, who is currently raising their child alone.
